PORT OF OSLO

Testamonial

At the Port of Oslo, we are committed to becoming the world’s most environmentally friendly city port, and this partnership with Elonroad represents a key step toward achieving that vision. Their innovative automatic charging technology will help us move closer to our goal of a zero-emission port, improving both operational efficiency and sustainability.

Challenge

This project, funded by the City of Oslo, aligns with Oslo’s ambitious goals to reduce emissions by 95% by 2030, compared to 2009 levels. Oslo Harbor’s vision is to become the world’s most sustainable urban port, targeting an 85% reduction in emissions by 2030, in line with the city’s 2017 Zero-Emission Plan. To support this, the port needed an innovative solution to electrify its land transport operations, including trucks and terminal tractors, while minimizing reliance on large battery packs and manual charging processes.

Solution

Elonroad has partnered with the Port of Oslo to implement a stationary automatic charging system for vehicles at the port. The project includes the installation of a 150 kW and a 50 kW charging station, integrating vehicles from Volvo and Terberg. The solution will be enhanced with digital services for energy monitoring, enabling the port to track charging efficiency and optimize energy usage. The system is planned for installation in February 2025, followed by a three-month evaluation period.

Outcome

This project will test the feasibility of stationary automatic charging in a port environment and help the Port of Oslo improve vehicle uptime, reduce energy consumption, and lower operational costs. The data gathered from this pilot project will provide insights into the potential for scaling this solution across the port, contributing to both the City of Oslo’s broader sustainability goals and the Port of Oslo’s vision, as outlined in their 2017 zero-emission plan, to become a zero-emission port.
